Nobody Remembers the Writer Who Writes about 5 Books to Read this Summer

Yet I am guilty of writing them

I had an epiphany yesterday.

The only writing I have remembered from reading gazillions of articles online were the ones that shared a deep secret about the writer. They were vulnerable. They had substance. They were written from first-hand experience. They were raw and fearless.

They were not the ones I am guilty of writing, and we see floating around on Medium, Buzzfeed, and other online publishing platforms.

Writing Cringe-Worthy Things People Do Online That Are Considered Normal made me realize how difficult it is to speak the truth. Truth offends people and puts you in a difficult spot. But this is when we witness the power of personal essays and storytelling. Talking openly about bizarre trends online made me nervous.

It was the first time I shared my views about women revealing themselves in the name of fashion styling and parents objectifying their kids for views, among others. I had to put an Author’s note to not offend anyone. I was nervous when it got published, I am still waiting for the backlash, but it showed the truth about online writing.

People will only remember you for writing dangerous things that make you uncomfortable…
